The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is seeking undergraduate student proposals for innovative projects that reduce Hunter College’s environmental impact, create environmental education opportunities, and/or empower students to implement solutions to
environmental problems. The application for the 2012-2013 grant cycle will be available in September. Start thinking about your proposal now!

No Impact Week at Hunter

Check out HSP’s No Impact Week, taking place from April 16-22!.

Each day of the week will be dedicated to a different challenge of green living, everything from composting to making sure you turn off the water while brushing you teeth. Students can expect to learn a great deal about sustainable living and the ways in which one can be a greener citizen – which is what we all want, I’m sure. If you are interested in taking part of No Impact Week, register online at http://noimpactweek.org.

Bicycle Commuting and NYC Bike Law Event

The Hunter Bike Project is organizing a bicycle commuting and NYC bike law event in late April.

Emilia Crotty, Bike New York’s education director, will give a short lecture on safe ways to commute via bicycle in NYC. Steve Vaccaro, an attorney specializing in NYC bike law will give another lecture about cyclists’ legal rights and responsibilities.

The event will be on 4/24 from 4-6PM in Thomas Hunter 105. There will be food and drink.

The Green Initiative Fund has awarded five grants for the 2011-2012 Funding Cycle. They include: Vegan food giveaways on campus; No Impact Week giveaways on campus; a series of bike safety and maintenance events; a project encouraging staircase use; installation of 17 Elkay Hydration Stations on campus.
