CISC Director Bill Solecki is the project leader on an initiative by researchers at the City University of New York, Rutgers and Penn State Universities to investigate the hydrological, vulnerability, and adaptation implications of recent climate extremes (particularly Hurricane Irene – August 2011 and Tropical Storm Lee – September 2011) on an exurban area of New York State.

The objective of the research is to discern and assess the “lessons learned” from recent flooding associated these extreme events for decision-makers and stakeholders in New York State with a focus on the implications and opportunities for future climate change adaptation strategies and response. The work will incorporate a case study approach focused on the Mid-Hudson Valley and Greater Catskills regions of New York, with detailed examination of communities in Orange County, NY along the Moodna Creek.
