Solar One: New York City Energy Policy Research Internship

Solar One, New York City’s premier green energy, arts, and education center, seeks an undergraduate or graduate student intern to research, write, and publish on the Solar One website a weekly or biweekly post (roughly 4-500 words) on a different aspect of energy policy (at the local, state, national, or international level) that impacts New York City residents. This project is intended to help New Yorkers understand the impact of energy policy decisions on their day-to-day lives as well as the future health of their city and planet. Possible topics range from immediate issues, such as natural gas drilling in the NYC watershed, to long term concepts like a “net zero energy” city. Website posts will be compiled into a permanent page on www.solar1.org. Individual interns will be given author credit on this page and in each post.

Candidates for this position must have excellent research and writing skills, be knowledgeable about energy policy and local energy issues, and have some familiarity with web publishing. This is an unpaid internship that will continue for the length of the winter/spring 2010 school term, with the possibility of extension. The intern is expected to dedicate five to ten hours a week to the project. Work can be done offsite, but the intern must be available for weekly meetings at Solar One’s Manhattan office. The intern will be supervised by Solar One’s Outreach Coordinator.
