Transportation for America (T4A) – a program of Smart Growth America (SGA) — seeks a personable, detail-oriented and sales-oriented individual to serve as an Outreach Associate, assist with growing & executing the organization’s key projects, as well as communicate with members, non-members and others in an outreach and relationship building role.

This is an entry to mid-level position and reports to the Director of Strategic Partnerships, and works closely with the T4A Director, as well as other T4A and SGA staff. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to work successfully with limited supervision, independently and within a team. The ability to work collaboratively and creatively within a distributed organization is vital to this position, as team members work in different locations. The ability to clearly and concisely communicate will be favored in the candidate selection process. In addition to other assignments and overall support as assigned, this position specifically supports the functions listed below.

Responsibilities

  • National outreach and advocacy: The successful candidate will develop contacts in a wide range of audiences across the country and be responsible for lead generation. The candidate will support the Director of Strategic Partnerships by helping to implement the vision and strategy of the national outreach program.
  • Project management and grant support: The successful candidate will gain exposure in the grant-making and funding proposal solicitation spheres of influence and be responsible for seeking out, writing, executing and reporting on new and existing grants.
  • Trend identification and content creation: In collaboration with the other appropriate teams at T4A, the candidate will identify trends in the transportation community writ large, leverage T4A’s existing content where appropriate and recommend and create new and innovative content to support the organization’s mission.

Special Knowledge and Skills

Required:

  • Excellent time management and organization, research skills, customer service, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills;
  • Highly skilled and willing to sell a variety of audiences on new concepts and ideas;
  • Ability to strategically prioritize their workload and complete multiple tasks and high volume of work;
  • Excellent written/verbal skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with working in a collaborative team environment;
  • High level of individual initiative and creativity, and;
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in sales, grant writing or outreach;
  • Working knowledge of, and experience with the use of database management systems (preferably Salesforce) and with the production of data queries, reports, and forms;
  • Experience working with diverse populations, and;
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint and comfortable working with iOS.

Compensation

This is an early career position and as such, salary is commensurate with experience and includes benefits. The position is full-time and available starting immediately.
