GIS Analyst
The Western Connecticut Council of Governments (WestCOG) seeks a qualified person to serve as a GIS Analyst. WestCOG currently has o”ces in Brookfield (outside Danbury) and in Stamford.
Job responsibilities may evolve over time but initially are expected to include:
• Support of a regional transportation program,
• Development and execution of local and regional transportation studies,
• Technical assistance to regional and local sta+, and
• Other tasks as assigned
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience with:
• Industry standard (e.g., ArcGIS) and open-source GIS
• Programming and scripting (e.g., ArcPython)
• Statistical analysis, aspatial and spatial
• Statistics packages (e.g. SPSS, R)
• Network analysis
• Big data
• Database design, integration, and use
• Study design
• Problem formulation and solution
• Development and implementation of research and analysis methods
• Transportation applications of GIS
• Surface transportation systems
• Passenger transportation (rail and bus transit, cars, cyclists, and pedestrians)
• Freight transportation (rail and road)
• Transportation demand management
• Intelligent transportation systems
• Current and future developments (e.g., ridesharing, autonomous vehicles)
• Cross-sectoral linkages, including between transportation, land use, and the environment
S/he should have a Bachelor’s degree in (Master’s preferred) from an accredited university in one of the following or a relevant field:
• Geography
• Computer science
• Information systems
• Statistics
• Mathematics
• Transportation engineering
• Operations management
• Logistics
In addition to at least one year of relevant experience (more preferred).
The ideal candidate will have a high level of proficiency in:
• Spoken and written English
• Mathematics and statistics
• Information technology and information systems
The ideal candidate will be an innovative and creative thinker, a person who asks questions but also finds her/his own answers.
To be considered, applicants must have a driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and be legally able to work in the United States.
Starting salary is open to negotiation, depending on qualifications, but is expected to be between $50,000 and $55,000. Benefits are available.
